Description
OPTI 980 Retarder (formula T-980, isophorone) is a slow-drying additive for Total Ink solvent-based screen inks. Added in small amounts, it keeps the ink open and wet in the mesh on long runs and in hot, humid shops — preventing drying, clogging and pinholing.
⚠ Industrial use only. An industrial solvent ink additive — keep away from apparel and skin contact.
Add 2–3% by weight. Quart, gallon and 5 gallon. Made in Hackensack, New Jersey.
What it does
- Slows drying so the ink won't set up in the screen during long runs or stoppages.
- Improves flow and open time in hot, dry or high-speed conditions.
- Compatible across the solvent line; for a stronger effect step up to OPTI 999 Super Retarder.

Safety, PPE & OSHA compliance
Flammable solvent-based product — handle per the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200); a GHS Safety Data Sheet ships with every order and must be kept accessible to employees.
- Gloves — chemical-resistant nitrile (not latex).
- Safety glasses — to protect against splashes.
- Mask — a solvent/organic-vapor respirator mask when ventilation can't keep vapors down (not a dust mask).
- Storage — keep sealed and upright in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place away from heat, sparks, flame and sun; ground containers when transferring.
